My Studio Art Classes.

So my studio art classes are 8 week courses. I am taking a total of 4 this semester which are FYE (first year experience) courses that all art students at my school have to take.

The ones that I am taking right now are called Experience and Space.
Experience is sort of a new media class. We have three projects in the eight weeks- a piece of video art, a performance piece and a piece of sound art. I have never have done anything like this before and it is definitely exciting. I not sure I will get the same grades I did in my other FYE classes but I have definitely learned a lot. We actually had to make a blog for this class (cool right?!) and it can be found here. (warning: I'm not the best at video art haha).

Space is a sculpture class. We have 2 projects in the 8 weeks- the first (which is due Thursday) is a subtractive sculpture done by gluing Dow Blue foam together and carving your heart out. I was EXTREMELY messy and the little pieces of Styrofoam foam are all staticy and are impossible to clean up.  Here are some photographs of my tools and foam. (after photos coming this week :])

the next project is additive sculpture using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which I am super nervous about (I had woodshop training last week!) as far as I'm concerned if I have all my fingers on the day of the critique than I rocked that project.

well that is all for now! I will for sure post the my projects later!

Update!?!

yes. so it has been a while to say the least. I have wanted to update but I have literally had NO time. College is tricky and I ended up dropping my English class (2 times) which left me about 3 classes behind in my current English class. One of the hardest things to do in college is catch up in one class while trying to not fall behind in others. Plus my work load has been gnarly. I am currently enrolled in 2 studio art classes, which is fun but ridiculously time consuming. I finally feel a little caught up, even though I have my first English paper and two major art projects due this week. I seriously took my first deep breath in over 3 weeks today :]

This is a schedule/to-do list (complete with doodles) from a Sunday recently. Busy Bee.

Above was my view all weekend long.

I'm hoping school relaxes for a bit :] I hope to see you soon! tomorrow? (no promises ;])

Music Monday!

First of all happy MLK day! I hope that it is going well!

So music is pretty much one of my favorite things in life. Now I completely lack musical talent but I listen to it religiously. I even have a small collection of LPs.

I decided that today I will share one of my favorite songs right now.

This is the song "All This is That" by The Beach Boys. This is such a beautiful song and this record sounds a bit different than that classic sound The Beach Boys are known for (in a good way). It is such a dreamy song and so perfect for this weird feeling about this new school semester. So, Enjoy!

So Long,
Emily

I'm Obssesed with...

CAT EYES!
This obsession of mine has been years in the making. I cannot get enough of them! I remember the first cat eye that I ever sported. They were a fabulous pair of sunglasses from Forever 21 (the beauty of F21 sunglasses is that you can try out various styles for roughly four dollars). I loved the way I felt in them but unfortunately I left them at a hotel pool :[. I searched the interwebs for about 2 years trying to find an inexpensive pair with the same level of glamour as my old pair.

This mission was fairly unsuccessful until I found this pair about 3 months ago :]

This beauty is my appropriately named "Bridget" sunglasses from Fred Flare. I loved them so much I had to buy a second pair (good thing they are only 12 dollars!).

My obsession carries on to my prescription glasses too...

These are my UH-mazing Betsey Johnson glasses! I love all of the detailing especially the hearts at the ear piece!

Last but not least is the ever so pretty eye-cat make-up that I sport probably 65-70 percent of the time :]

Well, goodbye for now!

Dear Blog, Sorry for the Neglect.

Well, it has definitely been awhile. I'm sorry and I really have no excuses besides the fact that I wanted to spend some quality time with my couch before spring semester started up. I am currently on my second day of classes and have about 40 minutes until my English class. Campus has been bananas recently because the President came to speak here two days ago about the terrible events that rocked my city.

Any who, the whole reason for this post is to say I still plan on blogging and I even have a few posts lined up including a decoupage project and a post about one of my biggest obsessions :]

In the mean time enjoy this music video by one of my favorite bands Telekinesis singing their super cute song "Awkward Kisser"--
Well, I am going to catch up on some things then off to class!

Peace!

Sketchy Situation.

Tonight I decided to sketch in my sketchbook. Now that sentence doesn't seem like anything special but I can't remember the last time I recklessly drew in a sketchbook. Recently my sketchbooks have been used as planners for other art pieces. They seem nowadays to contain more words than actual pictures.

So, back to my first sentence- Tonight I decided to sketch in my sketchbook and it was a good way to clean out the dust that has been gathering in my mind. Here are some products of the evening.

Peace!

First Book of 2011...

...technically I started in in 2010 but I finished it today. Reading was one thing that I was very excited to do this winter break, it was one of the major things that I missed last semester. I have always loved reading and I probably owe a lot of that to my mother who would read to me every night before bed. It was her that made realize just how spectacular a few pages of paper could be.

Any who, my first book finished in 2011 was Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Now, I know that I am a bit late reading this book, as it was first published in 2005, but I have been wanting to read it ever since I read about it on an awards list that has never done me wrong. Since it happened to be at my house already I decided to give it a go.

Needless to say I loved it and even shed a few tears. If you are looking for a feel good happy ending book this is not it. But if you are looking for a thought provoking and beautifully written book I suggest that you look into this one. Time Magazine even stated that this is the best book of the decade. It is hard to describe what this book is about without giving too much away and all I can really say that it is about a group of students who were raised with a very unique and specific purpose in life. Ultimately it raises one of my favorite themes in both film and literature and that is does anything we  do in life really matter?

After I finished reading I ran to the computer to watch the trailer for Never Let Me Go as it was recently adapted in to a movie. The trailer looks so good, but unfortunately it isn't playing in theaters anymore so I saved it in my netflix queue. Going off the trailer I am beyond excited by the casting for the movie because stars two of my favorite new actors: Carey Mulligan, who is and Academy Award nominee for her movie An Education, and Andrew Garfield, who just received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in The Social Network and is set to be the new Spiderman (!!!).

If you have read this book and would like another read with the similar does anything we do matter? feel I would highly recommend this one :]

Over and Out,
Emily
